"Women Artists of the DMV" exhibit
venue: American University Museum / Katzen Center
where: Washington, DC
when: September - November 2025

Curated by Lenny Campello, this sweeping survey brought together 63 works by 63 women artists from across the DC region, on view at the American University Museum / Katzen Center. In his review for The Washington Post, critic Mark Jenkins singled out Dana Ellyn among a group of politically-charged realist painters — alongside Kate Kretz and Sarah Bentley — noting that her piece depicts a migrant mother and child rendered as fish caught on a line, a "catch and release" dilemma. Jenkins placed Ellyn's neoclassical technique in the lineage of DC's 1970s realist painters, including Manon Cleary and Rebecca Davenport.
